Praised for his soundscapes and individualistic interpretations, pianist Klaus Nugraha has performed concerts in the United States, Singapore, France, and Indonesia in major venues such as the Kauffman Center of Performing Arts, Bicknell Family Center of the Arts, and Catholic University of America, the University Cultural Center, and Asian Civilization Museum. Recent engagements include Steinway Concert Series solo recital, a lecture-recital on Ravel’s Le Tombeau, and various workshops and masterclasses at music institutions across Indonesia.

Klaus holds a Doctorate degree in Piano Performance from the University of Kansas as a student of Professor Jack Winerock. Klaus received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from National University of Singapore YST Conservatory and the New England Conservatory where he had the privilege to study with Profs. Victor Rosenbaum and Albert Tiu. In addition, Klaus has been invited to train at Bowdoin, Chautauqua, IKIF festivals and has worked with John Perry, Julian Martin, Meng-Chieh Liu, Robert McDonald, Steven Osborne, Boris Slutsky in public masterclasses.

An award-winning musician, Klaus received prizes and special commendations from the International Young Artist Piano Competition (Washington DC), Pittsburg State Concerto Audition (Kansas), Conero International Piano Competition (Italy), and Zodiac Music Academy and Festival (France). In 2014, in recognition of his academic achievements, Klaus was named Presidential Scholar by Indonesia’s former head-of-state Susilo Yudhoyono.

Klaus currently resides in Surabaya, Indonesia and maintains a robust teaching studio of select young musicians privately and in partnership with JnC Music Centre. His students have distinguished themselves at various national and international competitions and have obtained Diplomas and Licentiates from ABRSM and LCM exam boards. As an appreciation to his skills and dedication in the classroom, Klaus was nominated Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant by the University of Kansas School of Music and Center for Teaching Excellence in 2021.
